No Heat in Warren, MI? Request a Callback
Heat out in Warren, MI? Tell us what is happening, tick the urgent box, and request a callback about emergency furnace or heating repair. We cannot promise a callback time or that anyone is available tonight.
If you smell gas, do not wait for a callback
Leave the home right away and go outside. From outside, call 911 or your gas utility's emergency line. Do not use light switches, appliances or a phone inside, and do not try to find the leak. If a carbon monoxide alarm goes off, leave the home and call 911 too.

Four quick checks before you submit
Thermostat
Set to HEAT, with the temperature above the current room reading. Fresh batteries if it uses them. Fan on AUTO, not ON.
Filter
If it is dirty or clogged, replace it. A clogged filter can shut the burners off for safety.
Power
Check the furnace's power switch and the circuit breaker.
Vents
Make sure supply registers and return grilles are open and not blocked by furniture or rugs.
These are the basic checks Bryant and Carrier list. Skip any you are not comfortable with, and do not try to repair gas or electrical parts yourself.

What “no heat” can look like
Blowing cold air
Often the thermostat fan is on ON instead of AUTO, or a dirty filter has tripped a safety switch.
Starts, then shuts off
A dirty flame sensor or restricted airflow can shut the burners off a few seconds after they light.
Nothing happens
Power, thermostat or ignition trouble. In Angi's customer data, nearly 41% reported a gas furnace that gave no heat or not enough heat.
Detroit's normals show about 6,067 heating degree days a year, roughly seven times the cooling load, so a heat outage here is a real problem for much of the year.

What emergency repair can cost (national)
- Emergency furnace repair (Angi)
- $300 to $1,200

Angi notes after-hours work can run up to twice the normal cost. We do not know what any local company will charge, and a form cannot guarantee how fast anyone calls back.
Common questions
Is a broken furnace an emergency?
We cannot judge that for you, and we found no source that sets a rule. Two situations are emergencies: a gas smell, and a carbon monoxide alarm. In both, leave the home and call 911 (and your gas utility for a gas smell) from outside. Beyond that, how urgent a heat outage is depends on the weather and on who is in the home. If anyone is in danger, call 911 rather than waiting for a callback from a form.

How much does an emergency furnace repair cost?
Angi's 2026 national figures: emergency furnace repairs cost about $300 to $1,200, or about $150 to $215 an hour for emergency or after-hours service, and Angi says you can pay up to twice the normal cost. For one common part, an ignitor that normally costs $150 to $250 can be $350 to $500 after hours. These are national numbers, not what a local company will charge. Ask about after-hours fees before you agree to a visit.

Who do I call for a broken furnace?
A company with a Michigan mechanical contractor's license with a heating classification, which the state requires to install, alter or service HVAC equipment. If you smell gas, call 911 or your gas utility first. This site is not a contractor. We cannot promise a call time or that anyone is free tonight.

Why is my furnace calling for heat but I am not getting any heat?
Furnace makers list these causes: a pilot light or electronic ignition that is not lighting the burners, a dirty or faulty flame sensor that shuts the burners off, a dirty filter that triggers the high-limit safety switch, and thermostat or power problems. Run the four checks above first. If they do not help, the ignition, flame sensor, gas supply or limit switch needs a professional.

Why does my furnace keep shutting off?
Two causes come up most in manufacturer guides. A clogged filter restricts airflow, the heat exchanger overheats, and a safety switch shuts the burners off while the blower may keep running. A dirty flame sensor can also make the furnace start and then shut off a few seconds later because it cannot detect the flame. Replace a dirty filter and clear blocked vents. If it keeps happening, have it diagnosed.

Why will my furnace pilot light not light?
Some manufacturer guides describe relighting a standing pilot by following the owner's manual, and say a pilot that will not light or stay lit can mean a faulty thermocouple or safety sensor or gas valve, which needs a professional. DTE Energy goes further and advises contacting a professional if an appliance's pilot goes out, so the professional can relight it for safety. If you smell gas, do not try to relight anything. Leave the home and call 911 or your gas utility.
